On Saturday, December 5, 2015, Egg Harbor City held their Annual Tree Lighting at 6pm. Chamber of Commerce’s, Jim Schroeder, started the festivities off by announcing Reverend Kathleen of Zion Lutheran Church who gave the invocation. Mayor Jiampetti welcomed everyone and asked that we keep our Troops and Veterans in our prayers this holiday season. There was music, sing-a-long, treats for the children, and a visit from Santa arriving on a fire truck. Lovely performances by Pilgrim Academy Bell Ringers rang us into the spirit of Christmas with many holiday tunes, Cedar Creek High School had two soloist sing Christmas tunes that got the children dancing in their spots and a special appearance by “Elvis” made the musical spirit of Christmas come alive on Philadelphia Avenue in Egg Harbor City.

Galloway Patriot Brings Mud Run To Boy Scout Camporee 2016

Galloway Patriot Brings Mud Run To Boy Scout Camporee 2016

The Boy Scouts held their annual “Camporee” at the Egg Harbor City Lake on Saturday October 15th. Well over 500 Scouts enjoyed a weekend of camping and learning skills.

The Galloway Patriot was very pleased to bring its “Magnus Mud Run” to the Boy Scout event and let hundreds of Scouts run the obstacle/confidence course.

The morning started with the “Last Salute” Military Honor Guard presenting colors and firing the “Jaime Lee” Civil War Cannon across the lake. The obstacle course was then set up and each pack present showed up to run the course.

We would like to thank all the volunteers that helped us set-up, manage and clean-up. Special thanks to Taylor Speirs, Chris Bell and Ken Paulmisano for their help in driving the military vehicles and trailers.

The Galloway Patriot newspaper and the Knutson family want to thank the Boy Scouts for inviting us and we want to say how proud we are of them for the great job they did this weekend.

We have over 160 photos here from the event and look forward to next year. The Boy Scout program is such a great way for boys to learn valuable skills and values like the importance of community service.

Egg Harbor City Waffle Hut

Felix Vazquez, owner of the Waffle Hut on Philadelphia Avenue in Egg Harbor City, served free Thanksgiving dinners to anyone who needed a holiday dinner or just company on Thanksgiving Day. Vazquez, who opened the Waffle Hut on August 19th, 2015 is giving back to the community. He believes that you should be a part of the community and help build it. He and his staff were generous to the people in town, he, along with his family and employees, served and ate with them. The Waffle Hut is located at 115 Philadelphia Avenue in Egg Harbor City.

The Galloway Patriot salutes Felix, his family and their employees for their efforts in helping the community.

Galloway Twp. Veterans Day events

Share This Great Galloway Patriot Story & Photos

We would like to thank all the people that attended and participated in the Veterans Day events in our area. It is great to see support from the community for those that have sacrificed and are committed to protecting America. Here is a little information and a few photos from three events which we were able to attend.

Our day started at Assumption Regional where the children did a wonderful presentation during an early morning assembly. After the assembly, veterans were presented with hand made cards thanking them for their service. The cards were extremely nice and thoughtful. While we could not make events at other schools, the Galloway Patriot, the Knutson family and the Marine Corps Direct Action Team, would like to thank all the schools, teachers and students that participated in Veterans Day events. It makes it all worth it to see such strong support from these amazing children.

The second event which we attended was the “Galloway Township Salute to Veterans”. This annual event includes a wreath ceremony, a poem, a speaker and taps. On hand were Galloway’s Mayor Don Purdy, Deputy Mayor Tony Coppola, Galloway council members – Robert Maldonado and Tim Meadows, Atlantic County Freeholder Rich Dase. The ceremony was conducted by Ike Rucker – United States Marine Corps.

The wreath was placed by Galloway Township Middle School student council president, Gracie Harris and vice president, Durwood Pinkett.

The Absegami Choir lead by Cheryl Breitzman preformed two songs. Absegami’s choir is fantastic and helps us celebrate Veterans Day each year.

The day ended with a Veterans Day Parade in Egg Harbor City. The parade, produced by council woman Hazel Mueller, was an honor for us to lead. The Galloway Patriot and Marine Corps Veterans Direct Action Team, led the parade along with the American Legion Color Guard and other local veterans. We brought our military vehicles, the Humvee which is signed on the dashboard by four Medal of Honor recipients and the M925A2 Troop Transport 6 wheel truck which is dedicated to the Marines of “BLT 1/8” (Battalion Landing Team 1/8). BLT 1/8 was the unit housed in the barracks in Beirut when it was bombed. That was the biggest single day loss of life for the Marine Corps since Word War 2.

Some of the parade participants included the Cedar Creek High School band, the Egg Harbor City Kiwanis Club, the Egg Harbor City Knights, the Knights of Columbus, Pirates Volleyball, the Egg Harbor City Fire Department and the 4H Baton Twirlers Club.

Again, we would like to thank everyone for their support of our veterans. It means a lot to us. If you would like to help the Marine Corps Veterans Direct Action Team prepare local young men and women that have joined the Marine Corps and are awaiting the day which they ship out for Boot Camp, please visit MCVDAT. Your help is greatly appreciated. We want to make sure these local young men and women are extremely well prepared and trained for the rigors and intensity of Marine Corps Boot Camp as well as their Marine Corps career. We know that the better they are trained, the more likely they will return home to our community safe.

The Travis Manion Foundation – 9/11 Heroes Run was held on September 12th at Historic Smithville Village in Galloway Township NJ.  This was the first year for the run to take place in Galloway.  The event is held simultaneously at many locations around the world.  The Galloway event was a big success with a few hundred in attendance.  Part of Route 9 and Old New York Road were temporarily shut down for the event.

In addition to local dignitaries, the EHT Color Guard (Katie Cantell, Edward Stearns, Brian Keane and Nick Poletis), the VFW Honor Guard, the Marine Corps Veterans Direct Action Team, Galloway Fire Department, Galloway Rescue, Galloway Police and the local Marine Corps Recruiting Unit participated.

The Galloway Patriot proudly sponsored and participated in this worthy event.  We took many photos and some video.  Please forgive us as the photos are out of sequence.  We had multiple photographers working the event.  We will load video once it has been edited.

We are including the results from the event below.  The fastest time of the day was 17:55.  That rocket fast run was from a young man (Saunders) enlisted in the Marine Corps and waiting to ship off to Boot Camp.  He does not appear on the results as the Marines supporting the event were not officially part of the race.  Hats off to the Fire Fighter that did the event in full gear and the Marines that carried flags as they ran.
